The human eye can see ~30fps but again, it has no relevance in this discussion as the FPS that the game runs at seems to have significant technological factors other than whether the eye will be able to see each rendered frame.

I personally always capped at 76 as this is one of the "magic" numbers and my PC generally couldn't run any higher!

EDIT: @ Dozy - There is no way that footsteps are quieter at different FPS, the audio hasn't been (and I don't see why it would have been) coded like that.

This say eyes can see over 200fps

Chin if FPS does not matter why set it too a magic number?
As you say you cant play ET at 333fps,so how can you comment about its effects,on some other FP Shooters they have capped the limit, because footsteps cannot be heard at high FPS.Explain why then that footsteps do sound much lighter to the ET player while using 333fps,if its not coded into game?

5 years ago the average PC could barely get 43FPS solid,so i dont think they would have envisaged/designed the game to be played at over 8 or more times this, recoil, spread and screenshake are obviously effected by very high FPS,i can demonstrate this at the LAN.
So what else is effected I wonder?
The lag at 500-600fps is caused,id say by not enough packets being recieved from the server.

I had a massive skill boost from playing at 40fps on my old computer and now on 125fps on my new one.

Never experienced that the footsteps sound lighter on high fps.

The 333 and 666 "bug" is that the spray is a lot less than with other fps values. :)

Dozy I never said the FPS didn't affect the game! I actually said it did!

My point about the footsteps is that only graphic effects are affected by FPS, as someone who has the SDK and went through it extensively, and also someone who makes games as a hobby, I know that the sound effects are not and can not be affected by FPS.

Also that link is just wrong... :P

Chin, always right as usual, ever consider that they are caused by bugs,in the way the game interpets what is happening,as the game is running faster, the sounds run faster and are over in a quicker time, appearing less.
Also PB have capped this cvar due to bugs in other games
e.g Call Of Duty -"having 333 FPS makes you have no foot steps, jump higher, silent reloading, throw grenades futher etc.."

At 333fps and higher the footsteps do not sound quieter, however there is a difference in the timing of the footstep sounds. The time between each sound being played is much longer than if it was done at a lower fps.

Running awesome rotation @ et.viperi.us:27961 atm!

fueldump
northpole

Not entirely sure about the rotation, as it became a bit random. Enjoy, and I hope it works! :P

Norway, so most likely a bit crappy ping :D

And as the university is the ISP, it could be kind of shitty from time to time, as many 100mbits downloading porn will overload the system a bit ;o
